Women’s Basketball

Virginia will play host to the first and second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.  John Paul Jones Arena will serve as one of the 16 sites for the games from Saturday, March 19, to Tuesday, March 22. Virginia last hosted the event in 2000 at University Hall.

Hoos for Herzlich

Virginia students are initiating the “Hoos for Herzlich 94 Fundraiser” in honor of Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich, who was diagnosed with cancer last spring. The Hoo Crew has set a goal of $9494, and will present Herzlich a check prior to kickoff when Boston College visits Scott Stadium on Nov. 14. Funds will be collected through Uplifting Athletes, and donations can be made online here.

Men’s Soccer

The No. 10 Cavaliers will travel to College Park Saturday night for a showdown with No. 6 Maryland. Kickoff is at 7:30 EST and an online audio broadcast can be found here. Virginia comes in riding a three game winning streak and a five game unbeaten streak. Will Bates has scored in four consecutive games and was named ACC player of the week by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Field Hockey

The No. 3 Virginia team looks to finish the regular season in style on Sunday against No. 13 Duke at 1 PM on the Turf Field. Seniors Lauren Elstein and Traci Ragukas will be honored following the game. Next up after this matchup: the ACC tournament, which will be right here in Charlottesville beginning November 5th.
