UVa Weekend Sports Roundup

Volleyball

The Cavaliers split two weekend games against squads from Florida, losing in three sets to #17 Florida State on Friday and winning in five sets against Miami on Sunday. The ‘Hoos are now 10-14, with a 5-8 record in ACC play. Outside hitter Simone Asque was named ACC Player of the Week for the second week in a row. The sophomore recorded a career high 29 kills in the Sunday triumph over the Hurricanes.

Field Hockey

The #3 Virginia team came back to score a 2-1 victory over #14 Duke at the Turf Field on Saturday. The Cavaliers were seeded third in the ACC tournament, which they will host beginning on Thursday. A rematch with Duke at 3:30 will mark Virginia’s first challenge of the tournament. Virginia finished the regular season 16-2, with a 3-2 record in the ACC.

Women’s Soccer

It was an exciting weekend for the footballers as they followed up Friday’s upset win over #4 Florida State with a 2-0 victory over Miami on Sunday. The big win gave the Cavaliers (9-5-4 overall, 4-4-2 ACC) a berth in the ACC tournament, held next week in Cary, NC.

Men’s Soccer

After tying #6 Maryland on the road Saturday, the tenth ranked ‘Hoos return home on Tuesday night to battle American at 7 pm. Virginia is 10-3-2 on the year and unbeaten in non-conference matches.

Football

Saturday’s game at Miami will begin at noon and will be televised by Raycom Sports. Next week’s contest at home against Boston College will start at 3:30 and can be seen on ESPN360.com.

Women’s Basketball

When the Cavaliers take on Tennessee (November 22, 2 PM) at the John Paul Jones Arena, all fans will recieve a free hot dog and 12 oz. drink as part of an effort to set a new attendance record for a UVa women’s basketball game. The current record is 11,174, set Feb. 15, 1986, at University Hall.
