Women’s Club Ice Hockey Begins Today

The UVA Women’s Club Ice Hockey team is the reigning champion of the D1, Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference (DVCHC). The team is looking to make it the three in a row, having won both the 2009 and 2010 DVCHC Championships. The Lady Cavaliers are characterized by their enthusiasm, skill, incredible speed and spirit. Though the season began a little roughly last year, with most of the first games resulting in losses, the team pulled it together and triumphed in the end.

Entering the championship tournament in the last, “wild card” position, UVA won every game and earned a spot in the finals. The championship game was against the tough California University of Pennsylvania. It was the most exciting and suspenseful game that I have ever played in. I’m sure many of my teammates will agree. The Lady Cavaliers emerged victorious in a game where both teams fought until the final minutes. Never before has the team felt prouder to sport their orange and blue jerseys, skating off of the ice, carrying our hard-earned trophy.

That was last season though, and now a new season begins! It’s a new year with new challenges. The team said “goodbye” to some impressive fourth year students at the end of last season. Jessi Koss and Casey Enyeart were phenomenal players and will certainly be missed. However, the team is super excited for a few new players to be joining our ranks. Women’s Club Ice Hockey Team’s first practice is happening tonight @9:30 PM in the completely renovated ice arena!

The Lady Cavaliers will be put to the test almost immediately. With only one practice under our belts, we kick off our season THIS SATURDAY against Liberty University. No time to worry, no time to fret- only time to play some hockey!

Hope to see some fans at our home games!
