2010-11 ACC Basketball Preview: Clemson
With basketball season gearing up, Wahoo Wire will be previewing each ACC team.
Clemson
ACC: 9-7
Overall: 21-10
Postseason: Lost to Missouri in the first round of the NCAA tournament
What they lost:
The Clemson Tigers enter the 2010-2011 season without their best forwards from last year, Trevor Booker and David Potter. Trevor Booker was a major force inside for the Tigers, as he led the team in rebounds, minutes, and scoring last season. David Potter was fifth in scoring last year as he averaged 7.0 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game.
What they gained:
Clemson brought in Brad Brownell from Wright State to replace Oliver Purnell as head coach. Brownell bolsters an impressive 167-85 overall record as head coach. Along with Purnell came freshman Cory Stanton, a pass-first guard that will probably see more time in the coming years.
Summary:
Look for great leadership and scoring from senior guard Demontez Stitt. It is expected that senior Jerai Grant will step up his game and fill the loss of Trevor Booker at the forward position. The team may struggle with depth as the season progresses and will need to rely on young players to step up their game. Watch for sophomore Milton Jennings to fill this role, as he is coming off a disappointing freshman season after being considered a top recruit. The excitement surrounding new coach Brad Brownell should definitely spark the Tigers to a great start that they hope will carry them through their ACC schedule and into the NCAA tournament.
