UVA Women’s Soccer’s Comeback Falls Short in NCAA Tournament Loss

The Virginia Cavaliers’ Women’s Soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss this Saturday to Ohio State, at a final score of 3-2. The game knocks UVA out of the NCAA tournament, after having advanced two rounds to the Sweet Sixteen.

Down 3-0 in the second half, scores by Sinead Farrelly and Gloria Douglas brought the Cavs to within one, but despite some excitingly close shots UVA was unable to complete the comeback.

Ohio State was able to score three goals on just six shots; Virginia had 22 shots and a significant possession time advantage, but was unable to find success until late in the second half. Coming down to a free kick with just 17 seconds left that was nearly headed by Defender Kika Toulouse, it was undoubtedly an exciting end to the Cavs’ 2010 season.
