Jaryd’s Crystal Ball Predictions

Compliments of kickso at Photobucket.com

Disclaimer/Introduction

I don’t pretend—wait a minute, yeah I do– I do pretend to know what I am talking about even though I am no expert; but I do follow our sports teams and make observations. That being said, I spent about 6 hours staring at my Crystal Ball–and by Crystal ball I mean rock stuck in the tread of my shoe– and had a premonition about the future of UVa sports teams– and by premonition I mean I just started writing down ridiculous claims on the back of my exam study guide while pretending to work in Clemons. But, here’s what I came up with, take ‘em, or leave ‘em, it was fun to make ‘em up. And I will be keeping score of how many of this things come true, me vs the future, starting off 0-0, bring it on future.

Predictions for the upcoming UVa-VT basketball game

I would like to see Bennett help out fellow new coach London and go out for a little revenge, but that said, UVa must play strictly to Bennett’s style to take this one. It’ll be a bit harder on the road, but if the ‘Hoo’s spent this week improving on their transition defense (and I’m sure they did), they should put up a nice fight. Look for the ‘Hoo’s to shoot well on the perimeter and watch out for Allen and Delaney to work the inside to put Mike Scott into foul trouble. If Scott gets into foul trouble the Hokies will have their way on the inside and should run away with the game. Expect a heavy dose of Assane Sene at the end of the first half, but don’t expect much as a result beside Delaney getting half of his first half point from free throws. Overall I think the game could swing either way, but here’s my predictions:

Short Term:

Mike Scott sees less than 30 minutes of playing time
If Scott picks up 3 fouls in the first half, VT wins
If 2 or more UVa freshman score in the double digits, UVa wins
If the game goes to OT, UVa wins
VT attempts less than ten 3-point shots
UVa attempts more than twenty 3-point shots

If Jeff Allen does this…… http://www.youtube.com/v/Peah-yY78a4?version=3 ….then UVa wins

Long Term:
Winner of this game will be tied for 1st in the ACC (just a hunch)
Both teams will start 1-2 in the ACC
Next time they meet, UVa will be 4-6 and VT will be 7-3
If Virginia beats VT both meetings, UVa will finish higher than Tech in the ACC
If Virginia loses either or both meetings, VT will finish in the Top 4 in the ACC
If VT loses, it will not be ranked again this season

Predictions for the ACC Men’s Basketball

Using an insanely complicated (read: simple math operations) and completely randomly fabricated point-ranking system based upon their opponents record, ranking, and the game result I have ranked the ACC teams based on their current performance. The way I see it, the current standings are:

1 Duke (7-0)

2 Miami (5-2)

3 Maryland (6-2)

4 Florida State (5-2)

5 Boston College (5-2)

6 Clemson (5-2)

7 NC State (4-2)

8 Virginia Tech (4-3)

9 UNC (4-3)

10 Virginia (4-3)

11 Georgia Tech (4-3)

12 Wake Forest (4-3)

The biggest surprises here are Miami, Maryland, and Clemson. The biggest disappointments are Virginia Tech and UNC. So here’s what I see for the ACC down the stretch. After conference games start this should all shake around, but here are my predictions for the ACC by the end of Winter Break (rankings in parenthesis), we’ll check in when classes start to score these.

1 (1) Duke

2 (16) Florida State

3 (21) UNC

4 (24) Miami

5 Virginia Tech

6 NC State

7 Boston College

8 Maryland

9 Clemson

10 Virginia (above .500)

11 Wake Forest (finish below .500)

12 Georgia Tech (finish below .500)

Other Predictions

UVa will not get more than one inch of snow until finals are over.

I will fail my exam tomorrow because I didn’t study enough

As exam stress builds, so will the strange odors rising from Clemons first floor
