Wahoo Wire Staff Pick ‘Em Week 12…ESPN2 7:30 Have Defibrillator Handy

This week really requires little introduction.  Everything is winding odwn, unbeatens have fallen, the BCS is a mess, and, oh yeah, the ‘Hoos have their biggest game in what feels like forever.  Accordingly, there is a pretty good slate of games that will surely be enjoyable.  I’ll let Sean take it away now…

Sean McGoey (39-16)

#13 Kansas State @ #23 Texas: Texas has been maddeningly inconsistent this year. Collin Klein and the Wildcats have stormed through their non-Oklahoma competition this season, and just took undefeated Oklahoma State to the wire. Advantage, K-State, 31-20.
#16 Nebraska @ #18 Michigan: Denard Robinson has dropped off mightily the last several weeks. Nebraska’s defense is as good as any the Wolverines have faced this season (except for Michigan State). Huskers win on the road, 24-13.
#21 Penn State @ Ohio State: Vegas has the Buckeyes as touchdown favorites at home. Not gonna happen. The Ohio State University has been shaky at times this season, and even with wideout DeVier Posey back in the lineup, a close one goes to the Nittany Lions, 17-14.
#5 Oklahoma @ #23 Baylor: No Ryan Broyles? No Dominique Whaley? No problem. Last I checked, Oklahoma still has Landry Jones available and looking to make a case that he, not Andrew Luck, is the best signal-caller in the country this year. Keeping the Sooners in the national title race without his top playmakers on offense might just put him over the hump. Oklahoma rolls, 42-24.
Virginia @ #25 Florida State: Yes, UVA has never won in Tallahassee. Ever. Yes, Vegas currently favors the Seminoles by 17.5. That’s correct; ten plus seven-point-five more. Does it matter? I doubt it. This is a perfect trap game for FSU, and even though there is actually a tremendous amount of pressure on Virginia to win this game, Mike London’s troops have displayed an ability this season to get it done when it matters…especially against ranked opponents on TV. Besides, I’ve already picked four road wins…might as well make it a perfect five. The Cavaliers set up an epic “Showdown at Scott” for next week, knocking off the ‘Noles 21-20.

KSU- Do they have the best coach in America?

Oklahoma

FSU- Either a tight one with UVA in top or a blowout, and a big blowout at that.

Texas- I’m just not convinced by K-State and I have at least some inkling of respect for Texas at home.

Nebraska- Just like last year, Michigan loses its teeth as the season progresses.  This is no exception against the Black Shirts.

Penn State-  They are the better team here and they should win this big, but we all know “big” is 6 points in the Big Ten.

Oklahoma- Yes the Sooners will win but I really hope this game has about 100 combined points.

Florida State-  Yes, I’m that guy.  We have every reason to go out and win this game while the game actually means NOTHING to Florida State who has soiled their season after being a preseason top 5.  Yet, you would have to be crazy to say the ‘Noles are not a better team…and they are at home in one of the most frightening venues I can think of…at night.  Of course, all the stars have aligned and we “control our own destiny” (stupid phrase, just say win and you’re in) but what in our cardiac arrest inducing wins against good teams implies that we will be able to handle quite possibly the most talented team we face all year?  Basically, I do not trust us even though I want to.  Prove me wrong ‘Hoos, make the game next weekend that much sweeter, induce partying in the street and the crazy idea of meeting the team charter at the airport.  I just don’t have the confidence that it will happen.
